About This ADHD Test
This free ADHD test uses Part A of the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1), a screening instrument developed by researchers in collaboration with the World Health Organization. Its six questions were selected because they are the most predictive of ADHD out of the full 18-symptom checklist used in clinical practice. It takes about two minutes and is scored instantly in your browser — your answers are never stored or sent anywhere.
A screening test is a starting point, not a diagnosis. ADHD shares symptoms with anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and thyroid conditions, which is why a positive screen should always be followed by a full psychiatric evaluation with a licensed clinician.
Common Signs of ADHD in Adults
Adult ADHD rarely looks like the stereotype of a hyperactive child. In adults, the condition more often shows up as chronic disorganization, difficulty starting or finishing tasks, missed deadlines and appointments, restlessness, impulsive decisions, and a sense of underachieving despite real effort. Many adults describe needing pressure or a looming deadline to get anything done, then burning out from the constant sprint.
Inattentive symptoms — losing focus mid-conversation, misplacing keys and phones, drifting off while reading — are especially common in adults and are frequently missed in women, whose ADHD often goes undiagnosed until their 30s or 40s. Hyperactivity in adults tends to feel internal: mental restlessness, trouble relaxing, talking fast, or feeling driven by a motor.
How ADHD Is Diagnosed
There is no blood test or brain scan that diagnoses ADHD. A licensed clinician makes the diagnosis through a structured clinical interview: your current symptoms, how long they've been present (ADHD symptoms begin in childhood, even if they weren't recognized), how they affect work, school, and relationships, and whether another condition better explains the picture. Rating scales like the ASRS support the interview but never replace it.
At Anywhere Clinic, an online ADHD evaluation is a private video visit with a licensed psychiatric provider. If ADHD is confirmed, your provider builds a treatment plan with you — which may include behavioral strategies, therapy, coaching, and a discussion of medication options when clinically appropriate. What Your Score Means
The ASRS Part A flags four or more answers in the shaded range (Sometimes or more for the first three questions; Often or more for the last three) as a positive screen — meaning your symptoms are highly consistent with adult ADHD and warrant a professional evaluation. Two to three flagged answers is a gray zone: below the formal threshold, but worth evaluating if the symptoms genuinely interfere with your life. Zero or one flagged answer makes ADHD an unlikely explanation, though it doesn't rule out other treatable conditions like anxiety or depression.
Wondering about low mood too? Many people with attention problems also screen positive for depression — you can take our free depression test as well.
