About This ADHD Test

This free ADHD test uses Part A of the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1), a screening instrument developed by researchers in collaboration with the World Health Organization. Its six questions were selected because they are the most predictive of ADHD out of the full 18-symptom checklist used in clinical practice. It takes about two minutes and is scored instantly in your browser — your answers are never stored or sent anywhere.

A screening test is a starting point, not a diagnosis. ADHD shares symptoms with anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and thyroid conditions, which is why a positive screen should always be followed by a full psychiatric evaluation with a licensed clinician.

Common Signs of ADHD in Adults

Adult ADHD rarely looks like the stereotype of a hyperactive child. In adults, the condition more often shows up as chronic disorganization, difficulty starting or finishing tasks, missed deadlines and appointments, restlessness, impulsive decisions, and a sense of underachieving despite real effort. Many adults describe needing pressure or a looming deadline to get anything done, then burning out from the constant sprint.

Inattentive symptoms — losing focus mid-conversation, misplacing keys and phones, drifting off while reading — are especially common in adults and are frequently missed in women, whose ADHD often goes undiagnosed until their 30s or 40s. Hyperactivity in adults tends to feel internal: mental restlessness, trouble relaxing, talking fast, or feeling driven by a motor.

How ADHD Is Diagnosed

There is no blood test or brain scan that diagnoses ADHD. A licensed clinician makes the diagnosis through a structured clinical interview: your current symptoms, how long they've been present (ADHD symptoms begin in childhood, even if they weren't recognized), how they affect work, school, and relationships, and whether another condition better explains the picture. Rating scales like the ASRS support the interview but never replace it.

At Anywhere Clinic, an online ADHD evaluation is a private video visit with a licensed psychiatric provider. If ADHD is confirmed, your provider builds a treatment plan with you — which may include behavioral strategies, therapy, coaching, and a discussion of medication options when clinically appropriate. What Your Score Means

The ASRS Part A flags four or more answers in the shaded range (Sometimes or more for the first three questions; Often or more for the last three) as a positive screen — meaning your symptoms are highly consistent with adult ADHD and warrant a professional evaluation. Two to three flagged answers is a gray zone: below the formal threshold, but worth evaluating if the symptoms genuinely interfere with your life. Zero or one flagged answer makes ADHD an unlikely explanation, though it doesn't rule out other treatable conditions like anxiety or depression.

Wondering about low mood too? Many people with attention problems also screen positive for depression — you can take our free depression test as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this ADHD test accurate?+
This screener uses the six questions from the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Part A, developed with the World Health Organization. It is a validated screening tool, but no online test can diagnose ADHD. A positive result means your symptoms are worth discussing with a licensed clinician, who can complete a full diagnostic evaluation.
How do I get an official ADHD diagnosis?+
An ADHD diagnosis requires a clinical evaluation by a licensed provider — typically a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, or psychologist. The evaluation covers your symptom history since childhood, current functioning at work and home, and screening for overlapping conditions like anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. Anywhere Clinic offers online ADHD evaluations with licensed psychiatric providers.
Can adults have ADHD without knowing it?+
Yes. Many adults were never evaluated as children, especially women and people whose symptoms lean toward inattention rather than hyperactivity. Adults often discover ADHD after years of struggling with organization, deadlines, restlessness, or feeling like they underperform relative to their effort.
What happens after a positive ADHD screening?+
A positive screen is a signal to book a professional evaluation, not a diagnosis. During an evaluation, a clinician confirms whether ADHD best explains your symptoms and discusses treatment options, which can include behavioral strategies, coaching, therapy, and medication when clinically appropriate.
Does Anywhere Clinic prescribe ADHD medication online?+
Medication decisions are made by a licensed clinician after a full evaluation and are never guaranteed. Stimulant medications are controlled substances, and federal and state rules — including the Ryan Haight Act — may require an in-person visit for some prescriptions. Non-stimulant options are also available and are discussed when appropriate.
