When the whole family needs support — not just one person

Dr. Sam Zand, DO

Founder & Chief Psychiatrist

Divorce is rarely a clean break. Parents may be grieving a marriage while trying to stay functional for their children. Kids may act out, withdraw, or blame themselves. One partner may want therapy; the other may resist. Extended family can amplify conflict instead of easing it.

Our approach is not to take sides or push reconciliation. We give each family member a confidential individual space, then — when clinically appropriate — bring people together for structured family or co-parenting sessions so communication improves without re-traumatizing anyone.

The Divorce Support package is built around how families actually experience separation:

  • Individual therapy for each adult and age-appropriate sessions for children and teens
  • Joint family sessions to improve communication and reduce hostility in the home
  • Co-parenting counseling focused on schedules, boundaries, and child-centered decisions
  • Psychiatric evaluation when anxiety, depression, or mood symptoms escalate during divorce
  • Support for stepfamily and blended-family transitions when new relationships form
  • Confidential care that respects legal proceedings without providing legal advice

What to expect from your care

Separation affects everyone differently — spouses, children, and extended family each carry their own grief, anger, and fear. Our Divorce Support package provides individual care for each family member plus coordinated group and co-parenting sessions so no one navigates the transition alone.

  • Individual sessions for every family member
  • Coordinated family & co-parenting counseling
  • Child & teen divorce-adjustment support
  • Psychiatric care when mood symptoms escalate

Your care, explained

What to know before you start — written by our clinical team, not a generic template.

Individual Care Within a Family Package

In most divorces, each person needs their own room to process — parents cannot fully grieve or plan in front of their children, and children should not be asked to mediate adult conflict. The Divorce Support package assigns individual providers or sessions for each family member while a care coordinator keeps the overall plan aligned.

Adults work through betrayal, financial fear, identity loss, and co-parenting resentment. Children and adolescents receive developmentally appropriate support for loyalty conflicts, school disruption, and anxiety about the future.

Family Sessions That Reduce Harm

Individual work alone does not always change what happens at the dinner table. Structured family sessions — sometimes with only subsets of the family present — focus on de-escalation, clear boundaries, and language that protects children from adult conflict.

Co-parenting sessions address practical questions: handoffs, holidays, new partners, and how to disagree without modeling contempt. We do not provide legal advice; we help you communicate in ways that support your children's stability.

When safety concerns, active abuse, or high conflict make joint sessions inappropriate, individual care continues with clear clinical boundaries.

Psychiatric Support During Major Life Transition

Sleep disruption, panic, rage, and depression commonly flare during separation. Our psychiatric team can evaluate whether medication may help when symptoms interfere with parenting, work, or daily function — always after individual assessment and with transparent discussion of risks and benefits.

Psychiatric care integrates with therapy across the family so medication decisions are not made in isolation from what is happening at home.

Our Approach

Support Without Taking Sides

Whole-Family

Each family member receives individual attention, with group sessions added when they serve the family's goals — not as forced reconciliation.

Child-Centered

Children and teens get age-appropriate care focused on stability, self-blame reduction, and healthy adjustment — not being put in the middle.

Confidential

What you share individually stays confidential within clinical and legal limits. Family sessions are structured so no one is ambushed.

Coordinated

Therapists and psychiatric providers coordinate so individual and group work reinforce each other instead of sending mixed messages.

Starting the Divorce Support Package

We learn who is in the family, what each person needs, and how to sequence individual and group care safely.

Family Intake

Each adult completes an intake covering separation timeline, children in the home, legal status, and immediate concerns. Parent questionnaires capture child-specific worries.

Individual Assessments

Each family member meets individually with a provider to assess mood, safety, and therapy goals before any joint session is scheduled.

Coordinated Care Plan

Your team outlines individual session cadence, family or co-parenting meetings, and psychiatric follow-up if needed — with clear boundaries about who attends what.
